Hello, I am Mandy Dance and with my husband Phil, breed, train, love and show, the Emem Miniature Wire Haired Dachshunds.
I have been mad about dogs since my earliest memory, and when I was allowed a Beagle at the age of 12, all my dreams came true. I showed Monty with very limited success in the breed ring, but it was obedience that took over my life. Not the easiest breed to train, Monty and I worked up to Test C and provided me with a good grounding in dog psychology!
After my marriage to Phil in 1975, things really took off as I was to indulge my passion for animals and I soon filled the house with Beagles, Border Collies, Kerry Blue Terriers .... not to mention gerbils, hamsters and guinea pigs!
The showing and working of the dogs was all consuming, but it was in 1984 when my life was to change forever with the addition of "Morsefield Millie Mopsie at Emem."
Mopsie was our foundation mini-wire and as the remaining dogs reached old age and eventually moved over the rainbow bridge, they were replaced by a houseful of Dachshunds.
Mopsie produced 2 litters. Her first, to Ch. Loretto Fred Flintstone, produced amongst it, the Cc winning Emem Magical Man. In her second litter to Drakesleat Speak Easy, she produced out first Champion, Emem Mumbojumbo (Monty) and his Reserve CC winning sister, Emem Misinterpret.
Mopsie's daughter Magic, by Fred, was mated to Drakesleat Take the Rap and produced our lovely Misty, Ch. Emem Mindyer Manners, who was Best of Breed at Crufts in 1991, the centenary year, under Zena Thorn Andrews.
It was the mating between Misty and Monty that produed the influential stud dog, Ch. Emem Mindyerown Bizniz. By now the Emem strain was set, having produced our own homebred Champion out of our own homebred Champion dog and bitch.
We never keep more that 6 - 8 dogs at a time and they all live in the house as pets first and foremost. Emems are known for their happy temperaments and we only breed a litter when we want one for ourselves. Indeed we are proud of our achievements, given the few litters we have produced.
Very occasionally we might have a puppy available to the right home. We are accredited breeders holding all three accolades.
As a kennel we take the health issues very seriously and all our dogs are microchipped, PRA tested clear and Lafora's tested Clear.
Not only is health and beauty uppermost in our breeding programme, but all our dogs have proven themselves hunting, and are encouraged to work naturally. We also train for the FCI working test in order to maintain brains as well as beauty.
We love our mini wires and are always pleased to chat! Mandy is a championship judge for all Dachshunds and Beagles and has officiated in Southern Ireland, South Africa and Australia as well as all over the British Isles.
